This falls under the categories of "outreach" and, to a much lesser extent, education.
The task of highest demand is sorting and answering e-mail sent to PERMANENT by the general public. We get a LOT. Some of it is from useful people. (We don't expect you to answer casual inquiries -- much of our e-mail is left unanswered, e.g., basic things already covered on the website, or bizarre questions.)
The e-mail of importance is from people submitting useful information or making useful suggestions, prospective volunteers who need to be assessed and brought in, journalist enquiries, and well established and very serious entities considering cooperative work.
