Chandrayaan 2, India's Lunar Lander Probe by ISRO
Chandrayaan 2 is a lunar lander probe and orbiter under construction by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Russian Federal Space Agency (RKA). The plan is for the mission to carry a lunar lander with a wheeled rover.
An agreement was signed between India and Russia in 2007 whereby India would take responsibility for the orbiter to relay data and the rover, whereas Russia would take responsibility for the lander to deliver the rover to the lunar surface.
The design was completed in 2009, and construction and testing is well underway. The mission launch date was planned for sometime in the year 2014 but may slip to 2016 due to some delays on the Russian side, due to the failure of Russia's Fobos-Grunt sample return mission to Mars' moon Phobos.
Chadrayaan 2 follows India's successful Chandrayaan 1 lunar polar orbiter probe and impactor.
